Overlaid stacked columns

When the values of a serie differ too much from the other series, it is very often quite difficult to display these high values in a stacked chart.

In the following screenshot, the serie with the high values has been plotted on a secondary axis.

Compare Excel Files

Another great link sent to me by Alfred vachris

Excel Compare is a tool that saves you the trouble of manually searching for differences and offers you computer-aided comparing of Excel files. Excel Compare allows you to compare Excel files, Excel spreadsheets and selected ranges of sheets. Excel Compare compares data straight from your worksheets, and presents the results on a new Excel sheet as a publication-quality report (Difference Report), that is ready to print or save. The report displays the added, deleted and changed data. Use this tool for analyzing the changes made.

The trial version has some limitations such as a nag-screen and the executions counter.

Fast method to open a function

Using the function wizard is often very time consuming…here’s a shortcut I use all the time.

  1. Write the equal sign and then the name of the function
    e.g. =vlookup
  2. Press and hold CRTL and press a (CTRL-A)
  3. There you are.

Tip: try the same, but use CTRL-SHIFT-A :)

Chart with dynamic title

This exercise demonstrates how to link a chart’s title to the content of a cell.
In this case, the cell contains the formula =”Chart for “&TEXT(NOW(),”dd-mm-yyyy”).
The second part of the formula results in the current date.

  1. Enter the formula =”Chart for “&TEXT(NOW(),”dd-mm-yyyy”) in the cell A1
  2. Select the title of the chart, and key “=” and select the cell A1
  3. Hit Enter and you are done.

Recap Dice

This is a little game I designed, in order to make a recap slightly more interactive.
This will only work if you have activated the Analysis Toolpak Add-In.
(Tools - AddIns - Analysis Toolpak)
Click on the picture of the dice to get different questions.
The questions can be modified on the second page.
